Where is the Church that Jesus built?

Allow me to start off by asking a few questions that might guide us to the answer of “Where is the Church that Jesus built?”

  • Does this Church really exist today?

  • If so, how can we recognize it?

  • Would we know it if we saw it?

  • Jesus said that He would build a Church that the gates of Hell would not prevail against it. I believe that we can take Jesus at His Word, that He did build a Church, but where is it now?
The Bible tells us that the Church which Jesus built was built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets and Jesus Christ was the chief corner stone. The revelation from God that Jesus was the Christ, the anointed one, the Son of the living God, who sent His Son to the Earth to provide a way for us to inherit eternal life and live forever with Him in Heaven.
If the true Church which Jesus built exists, and I believe that it does, then God knows where it exists. That Church though does not exist in any one place, in any one building, or where any one group of people congregate.
The Church that Jesus built does have one thing in common that it can be recognized by; it remains in the unity of the faith. But, what exactly does the unity of the faith mean? I’m glad you asked so I’ll tell you. The unity of the faith means that the Church that Jesus built has one set of beliefs that all members agree on. Jesus said that He would give the Church Apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers for the sole purpose of doing the following:

  • For the perfecting of the saints

  • For the work of the ministry

  • For the edifying of the body of Christ

  • To bring us all into the unity of the faith

  • For bringing us all into the knowledge of the Son of God

  • This was supposed to be the purpose for those ministers calling in the Church.
Now there are some who say that the unity of the faith exists because all agree to Jesus being the Son of God and a difference in the belief of other minor doctrines and beliefs are unimportant. This is nothing but a lie of the devil. If it was only necessary for us all to just accept John 3:16, these Apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers would not be of any value to the Church and would not be needed.
The word “faith” means that it is an assemblage of doctrines or beliefs that hold a group of people together in a unity of purpose. That unity of purpose is to understand and believe every Word of God and not just the Gospel of salvation.
So, does the Church that Jesus built still exist? Certainly it does, but it’s difficult to recognize it. It exists on an individual basis as the individual believer accepts the whole of the beliefs that have been passed down to us as a result of the teaching of the complete truth of the Word of God.
The true Church of God that Jesus built although is fragmented and cannot be located in any one place due to the incompetence of those who have misinterpreted scripture and introduced their man made doctrines and beliefs into our assemblies. Some of this misinterpretation evolved because of poor translation of scripture into English and false doctrines came because of those who have not been sent by God to preach and teach His Word.
Just as Jesus told Peter that His Church would be built on the revelation of the truth as God spoke to the heart of mankind. Revelation of the truth is absolutely necessary to bring the Church that Jesus built back together in a unified body.
