A Family of Prophets

Does God ordain everyone in a certain family to be a Prophet? Now we all know that is not true because it doesn’t happen that way. Even so, William Branham thought that his son Joseph would become a prophet after his ministry ended. He said that he wished his spirit would come on Joseph in a double portion of what he had.  William Branham said “I'd like to live long enough that I could see my little Joseph setting there become a minister; take the spirit that I shall leave him.

What a thing to say that he wanted his spirit to come on Joseph in a double portion, his spirit not God’s Spirit. He said that when he dedicated Joseph as a baby, "Joseph, my son, you are a prophet." Later on he stated that God had spoken through him and was the one who pronounced Joseph as a prophet. That amounts to “Thus saith the Lord” saying that God spoke those words.

While William Branham was praying he said: “God, when my days are done, I'd like to see little Joseph be a man that I could place this Bible in his hand. Because the day of his dedication, You spoke (God spoke) Said, "Joseph, thou art a prophet." I pray, God, that You'll let double portion of the spirit on my boy

Well, this was one time that God did not speak those words through him, even though it amounted to “Thus Saith the Lord” and he was mistaken, because his son Joseph is not a prophet. Joseph must have thought that his father’s words would have come to past, because when he got older he began to promote himself as a prophet, but it didn’t work and his assertion was repudiated by many in the church.

Even though, Joseph continues to perpetuate this idea that he might be a prophet by including the words of his father on his profile on the Voice of God website saying: “Joseph my boy, I give you to God and may your life be a blessing. May you be a prophet Joseph”. Why else would Joseph include these words of his father other than to perpetuate the false assumption that he is a prophet? That is the reason.

On one of the “Message Believers” websites this person wrote the following statement: “The word has been spoken, Brother Joseph Branham is God's prophet. You can't change it. He made himself know as he is running his heavenly father’s business according to his call into the office at the headquarters where the food has been stored by the major prophet in this age for the bride of Christ. He founded VOGR and acting as a business man in 1981, some call him the C.E.O others call him president of VOGR. God call him his prophet, thus the main thing.’

Who will it be next? Will they promote one of William Branham’s grandsons to be the next in line for the office of a man made prophet also?

God put five offices in the church for the “For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, for the unity of the faith”. They were apostles; prophets; evangelists; pastors and teachers. The last true God sent prophet was Jesus Himself. The last Apostles were the twelve that Jesus ordained and now the church has only Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers to fulfill God’s plan for the last days and there is still no unity of the faith as God planned for it to be.

The “Message believers” who follow William Branham’s teaching say that you must believe everything he said if you are to be taken in the rapture and that his messages must be preached in all the nations of the World before the end comes. This is not according to what the bible teaches us. These are all lies of the devil and are not according to God’s Word.

In closing I’ll state this; the bible is the only thing that contains the truth of God’s Word. False teachers and false prophets in these last days are deceiving people just as Jesus predicted.

Return to the Bible and be on solid ground, or sink on the shifting sands of the time that remains.

I do not know of ANY instance in which Brother Joseph promoted himself as a prophet.

I don't doubt that you didn't know, nor did a lot of others, but I do know on a firsthand basis.

There was a time when he circulated a flyer around to some of the churches to that effect, but it was put a stop to by someone close to him.

I can understand him trying to do that in regards to what his dad said. Brother William Branham did say that God told him that Joseph was a prophet. Just another one of his prophecies that was not true.

Yes, I saw the flyer.

But is it not written that Elisha did speak of a prophet's spirit as his spirit...

2 Kings 2:9 KJV

And it came to pass, when they were gone over , that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said , I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.

And is it not written that Elisha's prayer was answered...

2 Kings 2:15 KJV

And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said , The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

Did not our Lord also speak through the other prophets in the first person, such as David...

Psalm 16:10 KJV

For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

That's true Leigh, but what is the point you're trying to make?

Is it that Brother Branham's spirit fell on his son Joseph and that makes Joseph a prophet?

Or is it that you believe that Brother William Branham was a prophet of God and the prophet's spirit did fall on his son Joseph?

Would you like to explain what the bottom line is that you are trying to make?

I think Leigh's point was in reply to your rebuke of Bro. Branham for saying "my spirit". Many of the people who argue against Bro. Branham use false balances such as this, shooting Bro. Branham and with the same bullet shooting the Bible's godly men, whether they admit it or not. Whether Bro. Branham is a prophet or not, one should always speak the truth. Just because you think you are arguing for the truth does not give you leave to twist the truth to make your argument come out better.

Job 13:7-10 KJV  Will ye speak wickedly for God? and talk deceitfully for him?  (8)  Will ye accept his person? will ye contend for God?  (9)  Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocketh another, do ye so mock him?  (10)  He will surely reprove you, if ye do secretly accept persons.
