Religious Cults

I am simply amazed and overwhelmed by the interest that has been demonstrated by the tens of thousands of people from around the World who are searching for information about Religious Cults.

As you read in this article about the two religious cults being focused on, you should think about the possibility that you very well might be a member of a religious cult and not aware of it.

As you think about what a Religious Cult is like, it might be a lot different than some of the notorious and extreme ones like are reported on in the news media. A Religious Cult could be any organized assembly of people who are held together by a set of beliefs that make them different from other organized assemblies of people. It could be and might be what you recognize as your own Church that discourages the people from visiting or socializing with family members who are not in the assembly or another religious assemblies of people.

It is obvious that almost all churches schedule their worship services at the same times of the day and week, such as Sunday morning and evening, wednesday evenings and at times Friday night prayer services. Almost all of the churches do this in order to prevent their members from visiting other churches in fear that they might lose some of them. This is a tactic of a cult to strenghten the hold on their people and prevent them from hearing and considering another different view about what they have been taught in their regular assembly.

If you make a search on the Internet for a listing of religious cults in Jeffersonville Indiana, two names will come up.  The search displays the names of “Branhamism” and “B.R. Hicks. The word Branhamism is given to a religious group that adheres to the teaching of William M. Branham who founded the movement known recently as the “Message of the Hour” or “Message Believers “and has its headquarters in Jeffersonville Indiana. B.R. Hicks is the name of the founder of Christ Gospel Church, which has sister churches around the World, with its headquarters in Jeffersonville Indiana also.
Both of these religious movements have one thing in common which is the acceptance of their individual founder’s interpretation of the Bible. Even though the doctrines of these two movements are miles apart, they share the distinction of being recognized as cults by the majority of other religious organizations.
The method of interpretation of Bible scripture by these two founders of their respective movements also differs in its own unique way. Where BR Hicks bases her interpretation of scripture on her knowledge of the Hebrew language and how it relates to the correct translation of the Bible into English, the interpretation of Bible scripture by William Branham is based upon the act of reading between the lines.
Hicks method of teaching draws heavily on Old Testament scripture and teaches the adherence to the Mosaic law and types and shadows. They also practice something that relates to the Urim and Thummim which was what the breastplate of the high priest was called. When the people wanted to inquire something of the Lord, they would take it to the High Priest and the answer from God would return to them through this breastplate. Where Rev Hick’s church practice this is by forming a committee in her church which would receive an inquiry from the people and this committee would inquire of God and return the answer back to the people. This appears to be only a method of control for the church to have over the people, where this committee takes the place of the Urim Thummim from the Old Testament.
Branham viewed bible scripture as being a letter from God and compared it to a letter from his spouse, where the real message is not always stated in words, but because of the relationship of the writer and the reader, you need to understand the message that is not in words, but exists between the lines and can only be understood in that fashion. This again only served as a method of providing him with a way of giving his own interpretation of scripture to his church.
Even though these two groups are viewed as cults, to be in all fairness, they differ very little from any other religious group or denomination of churches. Every Church has its own private interpretation of what Bible scripture means because of what each Pastor or Minister of each church believes and in effect, puts their own interpretation into their teaching. So in that respect, all religious congregations are in a way cults in their own respect.
Another religious movement was formed in 1948 called the World Council of Churches and had its first assembly in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Its goal was to unite all Christian Churches around the World under a common set of beliefs. Over the years attempts were made to set and adopt a common set of doctrines that all churches could agree on, but to this date have failed in its mission. The only common thread that holds this group together is the belief in a God. Other than that, they can be viewed as just a World Council of cults which stand by their own individual interpretation of scripture that keeps them from having real unity in the faith.
Unity in the faith can only come about by the understanding that there is only one truth. Which truth exists only in God’s Word without man’s interpretation being any part of it. Until such time as the church recognizes that and turns from man’s interpretation of scripture to the truth of it as it was written in the original languages, we will not have any unity in the faith and the many religious cults that exist will continue as they are today.

Yea, right Sid Hicks, you are part of this "queen" and standing BETWEEN God the Father and Jesus the Son. Can you show us the place you found this "queenhood" in the Bible?

OH, didn't you USE to say the Bride would travel to the lake of fire, etc, to teach the lost? - Don't tell me, you changed your mind again?

More made-up nonsense from the mind of this crazy (like a fox) pastor - for what purpose? Just another carrot to dangle in front of her deceived following enticing them with lust for some future spiritual lofty position (that doesn't exist) so they will obey her as master.

Looks like another Church is leaving CGC, word is that Purvis, MS church voted to no longer affiliate itself with CGCII

Probably because Delbert Brooks set them straight on what is going on in Jeff. Would God that all the USA churches leave CGC and follow Jesus and not Hicks.

Have you ever seen someone charge for there autograph? And call the pastor mama and when she comes out on stage ppl run to her lk a God screaming mama....

So its your first CGC summer convention I'd take it?

Well, you know its being a trying year for Sis Hick you know. Losing half the people at Jeff and all that money/tithes, not to mention busting her hip, etc. So the sympathy build-up to convention time must be tremendous. Now if Hicks would only humble herself and tell the truth, THAT would be better than a million prayers.

Sad for someone who teach humility over an over for 50yrs cant practice what they preach. Jesus is saddened over it.

Word is out that a church in Minnesota is become an affiliate of Return church. Eyes are being opened to the errors at CGC.

So sounds like BR is going down to Lafayette to try and cover up the latest action of the predator she sent down there!!! Then she is going to try and force the deed to the property be turned over back under her control.

I'm finally at a place where I can see and admit that it is a cult. occult. whichever.
I'm thankful that I'm only 25 and have time to change, and that more of my life wasn't wasted. But nearly 24 years. That's a long time. Since birth. All I knew.

Anyone have any suggestions for counselors around the Jeff/Louisville area? Some that have experience with this issue, perhaps? Any good books/articles/churches too. my email is Candice rb 24 @ gmail.com No spaces though

Well i commented on this post some time back and was defending b r hicks. I am here to say I was completely wrong. And actually she is much worse than you know. I can't go into detail it she is practicing witchcraft and refers to herself as the queen of heaven. With isnknlymentioned in the bible twice and in reference to the Assyrian or Babylonian goddess ashtoeth or Ishtar. Mad bad stuff happening now in cgc

Lana broussard said...

I was one of the first ones on the side defending BR Hicks. And I believed everything that I said with all my heart. Today I'm back to say I was 100% wrong, after returning to the Lafayette church after stay in jail in a long run of drug addiction, I went back to the church in Lafayette for help and guidance . I begin counseling with the pastor and within a couple of months time he had led me into a path of adultery fornication drugs and stuff even sicker than all that. My mind was really confused and messed up and I was in a very dark place I just recently came out of it and told the truth to people he's no longer pastoring but the damage is done to my mind and my spirit . They are Hicks knew about this pastor who had a reputation of doing this every church that had been to and many many marriages in her own church were destroyed because of him and yet she kept them on the platform. You're my relationship with him I went through as text messages emails with permission and listen to conversations she's evil sexual predator herself that's why she allows it she practices witchcraft and she goes to an extreme clean up her messes or her preachers messes including the unthinkable. I know this because someone was sent after me

BRH is so far in left field. Why cant people see the fraud??
she stands behind pulpit and says... God has killed all her old enemies and will kill her NEW enemies too. (ah Who could that be?)

Sick! Plain Stupid too as Bible says ALL flesh will die -- so when a saint of God (that made enemy = disagreed with her) goes home to Jesus she brags God killed them?? - and CGC people believe and are afraid of that nonsense? lol!

Delusions of grandeur (Queen) and a megalomaniac (fear & control)

But please do pray for BRH that she will confess the truth and beg forgiveness for her many trespasses against CGC people.

I am a true born again Christian, aged 26, living in fear of the Lord Jesus Christ, knowing He see's all and will judge me accordingly. I could never find a church where I heard the TRUTH, without the addition of worldliness and falseness. I often felt like I should have been born in the time era where women wore no makeup, beautiful long dresses, long hair and were modest and conservative. Purity. Maybe like in the movie Little Women or Pride and Prejudice, that dress code.
My room mate at university introduced me to Christ Gospel Church (South Africa). I was very impressed with the standard of holiness. The first night, at CGC Bible Study, I saw a framed picture of Hicks, I thought it was the man's grandmother. But he said to me, no, it's their pastor. When Sunday came, I looked for Hicks the whole time. Then I heard, oh no, she lives all the way in America and these people who have her photo framed in their houses have never even met her. I thought it strange but that was not such a big deal to me.
The Worship was extremely strange to me, and I tried hard to accept it. I realized all my joy in the Lord had left me. I prayed about it. One night while watching a DVD of Hicks she said: Christ Gospel Church stands for 666 because nothing belongs to the devil. My jaw dropped, looking around at the others reaction, they shouted and clapped their hands at this revelation from Hicks. I became scared I saw these people will believe ANYTHING Hicks says, no matter how outrageous. I asked Jesus to show me for sure because I was so confused. One night I had a dream, I dreamt the pastor was dressed like the devil (horns and red suit, everything) and was spitting out the worst lies. My mother told me, in the dream, to please be careful of these teachings, so cleverly mixed lies and truth. I woke up in a cold sweat, scared, knowing God had shown me to leave. All the people from CGC who once claimed to love me so much all of a sudden ignore me flat. I cannot understand why as I am still strong in Jesus, why then reject me? When I asked the pastors wife to please explain to me why no one questions Hicks about the CGC is 666, she said to me, don't you dare say anything about our leader.... And that is my experience with Christ Gospel Church.... Stay away...

A donation to missions is one thing (though it has been proven that the money is benefiting Berniece and Barbara more than anyone else) but selling your socks as a holy relic is blasphemy and that is essentially what she has done

Do u know BR Hicks to this day proclaims she named her church after 666, she then tries to give her own explanation of why it is acceptable when the bible clearly stats it's the mark of the beast!!!

Anonymous said...

Hicks is very much into witchcraft and promoting the mark of the beast!!

James said...

"Hicks is very into witchcraft and promoting the mark of the beast!"

Really? Hmmm, so does she do this in secret meetings?? Cause I sure didn't participate in witchcraft or promoting the mark of the beast for the 30 something years I attended CGC in public services and prayer meetings and sunday school and childrens' church, and/or any other number of functions that I attended at CGC. Nope, not one.

So, with the accusations of witchcraft where is any type of corroboration???

Anonymous said...

The fact that she openly proclaims that the name she choose for her church represents 666, a number which the bible clearly explains is the number of the beast, should be enough to open anyone's eyes to see that she is promoting the mark of the beast. Instead I will give some BS explanation that it was Gods number first and the devil stole it, all things that Hicks has told you as "her interpretation" or revelations. Read the bible it clearly, without room for interpretation, explains what 666 is!!!

Again - you should question why did nearly 100 brethren leave CGC this year? The story behind this is no lie - those people were pillars in the church, many since the 60's and 70's. What about the board of directors walking out and quitting? That should have opened many eyes but many are just plain AFRAID of her and the falsehoods of punishment of outer darkness hicks spread for years - why? To keep them in hard bondage of fear! Thats is wresting the scriptures to maintain CONTROL and instill FEAR of God's people!

Those blessed ones who broke FREE are deceived NO more by the Grace of God.

There was and is deception of the flock of most heinous kind going on at the Jeff church. Those posting defending her are NOT aware of what is going on behind the scenes they are blissfully ignorant!

Doesn't matter if they have been there 30 days or 30 years - if they knew one tenth of the truth - they would have to choose their Christian faith or continue the life of lies at CGC.

Anyone that call themselves Christian and is in FEAR to leave a church is in a cult.

How has it been proven? Please elaborate/share.

Also, I think selling her socks as being "anointed" is what she says... and if people believe that then I think that is on them. There have been stories of people being healed. But, of course, I did hear them from Berniece over the pulpit, and I am not sure anymore what to believe of what she has said.

I have never heard of them being sold for such high dollar as has been mentioned here. I haven't been to every recent convention either though.

It's amazing even with documents proving guilt people will still choose to defend their cult. James why did she name her church after the mark of the beast????

Socks did sell for 10K+ on more than one occasion and are sold in bulk in the foyer during conventions. The impression when they were first auctioned off was that they had a special anointing and stories were told of how they had healed people.

Bothered me when it happened and after seeing what has been going on behind the scenes I realize that I had good reason to be bothered by it.

It's amazing that you clearly did not read and/or understand what I wrote.

I am asking for those people who claim they have SPECIFIC information, or who claim that something has ALREADY been proven, to share MORE INFORMATION.

For example, HOW has it been proven that CGC mission money does not go to missions?? WHO has the proof??

As far as her reference to CGC being intentionally named with 6 letters in each word. CHRIST = 6, GOSPEL = 6, CHURCH = 6.

Yes, she has specifically stated this, and I have heard it in person with my own ears. Yes, it bothered me when I heard it, and continued to do so.

She claims it is because the 'number' of Jesus is 666 and it has been stolen by the anti-christ. And the number of Jesus is 666 because of the number of candlesticks and loaves of bread on the altar. That is also another 'special revelation'.

I don't understand then, why the Word of God specifically tells us the number of the Beast is 666, but doesn't bother to tell us the number of Jesus? That isn't remotely logical to me. Come let us reason.

Not to mention the fact that there is a scripture that says we are to abstain from all appearance of evil, and then the LORD is going to tell her to name her church after the number of the Beast? and to also have a Hexagram as her church logo? hmmmmmm. craaaack.

For me, it was just another 'thing' I put on the shelf.

That shelf broke.

Please refrain from your snide remarks in the future. You do not help at all with such an attitude. *IF* I were a person who was still on the fence, I can assure you that I would be inclined to go the opposite way of anything you would say.

Lana broussard said...

Yes she does with craft. She started a exclusive group called purple pearls where it as by invite only. She taught this group what the rest of the " flock" wasn't ready for. She taught them several things. One being that Jesus had two natures man and God. He came to wrath with both and as God was fully Devine but as man fully human with human needs and he had sexual relationships with a man and a woman. She taught these "pearls" that as priest or ministers they were entitled and it was a curse and privilege as "priest" to pleasure themselves sexually however they wanted. This is why she covers up and allies with preachers or deacons in her cult who get in trouble with low for sexual deviance. Not only that but she mixes Old Testament and New Testament. Old covenant with new covenant when u that it becomes withcraft

Besides that all her beginning books plagiarized and yes ther is proof

Bc she believes she is the queen of heaven which is known as the Babylonian or or goddess of fertility or the "mother" of all

There's some really ridiculous accusations (see above post) on this blog. I have been around CGC since a small child. I feel I've been full circle around the message. There's most certainly good spiritual truths that are intertwined in the CGC doctrine. Yet there's also a fair amount of "personal revaluations" that is very difficult for members and ministers to explain their root base. I have struggled for over 10 years to leave CGC and stay gone. But when it's the only gospel you're familiar with since a child it's easier said than done to walk away from.

What I finally feel has been the tipping point for me is partially due to the sock selling. It doesn't matter what excuse is used to justify selling or purchasing socks. It's the whole idea that someone thinks so high of themselves to think anyone would want to purchase their socks. If it's "all for missions" then why take anything in return. Just donate the money and don't take any magically anointed articles of clothing. You cannot continually taut your own accomplishments (i.e. photographic memory, talented musician, special word) that only I know that you're not ready for and selling your clothing. And then after all that saying "to God be the glory". That doesn't erase or excuse the behavior.

I personally never idolized or worshiped Hicks, but some ignorantly do. I can't be a part of an organization that idolizes any human. If you've bought her socks, her oil, her water or anything else that she's touched in some way I'm sorry to tell you but you're part of the problem.

My family has purchased her oil $30 for a very small amount. It's biblical to apply oil to someone before praying for them. There's nothing magical about anointing oil so it doesn't matter who's prayed over it. The only reason it's done is because what it symbolizes. It's automatically assumed to be more powerful because Hicks has anointed it. God is no respecter of persons. So it doesn't matter who's prayed over it.

Once I was able to acknowledge the main reason I have had difficulty leaving CGC was due to fear of missing the rapture. By that admission I could see that I was placing God and the CGC message in a box. I thought if I left CGC for another doctrine even a completely easy to understand biblical based church I would be missing GOD. Please understand that God exists outside the CGC organization.
You're not in outer darkness if you leave CGC. That's a fear tactic and a perfect example of what a cult is. Look up the word cult in the dictionary and try your hardest not to see a CGC reflection.

Anonymous, I'm glad you have decided to leave! There are MANY people that have done the same thing in the last year. It has been confusing and painful, yet liberating and freeing- healing is a process. I have felt true freedom and rest in the last year after leaving. It's so wonderful! There is freedom in Jesus, and you don't have to be scared to miss the rapture! Hicks used fear to control, but the BIBLE says "I have not given you the spirit of fear but of a sound mind...". Fear is from the devil! I encourage you to talk to others you trust that may have left. If you don't know anyone specifically, let me know, or you can reach out on Return's facebook/website.

It's pretty sad that former CGC members have to revert to coming to a blog comment section anonymously. When most of us are are just trying begin the process of spiritual healing do to all the years of thinking a certain way was "The Way" and now we are beginning to see God through eyes of love and grace not just judgement.

But we are reduced to coming here for fear and threat of lawsuits and litigation. Christ Gospel has moved away from the church mindset and has become a business empire that won't answer doctrinal questions when presented.

What you're taught by B.R. Hicks that you don't understand well that no one fully understands besides Hicks you are told to "place that on a shelf" therefore they are asking you to have faith in Hicks. You should never trust your faith to a human. God alone is the only one we should ever rest our faith in.

Yea Hicks cannot bear the truth about the shenanigans that have gone on in CGC for years and years and that she allowed to continue... with full knowledge of what was going on.

Cant bear the truth get out that why her and her daughter threaten to sic their lawyers on any blog that exposes them.

People are told to be quiet or they will be sorry, God will leave them, etc etc... ALL LIES. There is more but that might get this post blocked.

Back as far as any "old timer" can remember CGC has been plagued with adultery, divorces, and all kinds wicked sex sin and debauchery all the time touting some Godliness for how you dress/long hair - Bah! whata joke they run around all holy but lusting after each others wife and husband, sickos! Almost all the leadership have cheated and divorced, names upon names of the "leaders" yes they know what I am talking about.

Utterly Rotten. It will always be a rotten place as long as Hicks' are behind the pulpit or pulling the strings. Rich, Elite evil hiding behind false doctrines and instilling fear into God's Flock.

God has already spewed this church out of his mouth. There are still some good folks there but they are deceived or they would have left.

Her socks are said to be "annointed". That is why people bid $ on them. She teaches that Christ was a created being. Christ is God not a created being. She teaches that people choose their own parents. This assumes that you are somehow alive before your conception. Sounds a bit like reincarnation. Any way you slice it, these teachings are contrary to Scripture. The Word calls this," another gospel". We are warned of the danger of this abomination.

Very interesting, here is a case of TYPICAL CGC /BRH following and their cultist mentality... let study this, First:

First I go to cgc and my name is Jill I believe in Rev B R Hicks

The cult leader is only one that they look to FIRST and FOREMOST in their mind to defend. Belief in the cult leadership is TANTAMOUNT.

if you don't have the balls to write your name on your reply then don't reply.

SECOND: UN-christian like language is OKAY when defending the cult and its leader.

Wow the more I read from people I get mad.

THIRD: Despite the fact it is illogical to read these posts, KNOWING the subject matter does not flatter the Cult/Cult leader they display more UN-Chirstlike behavior.

Jesus said if they be for us who can be against us. So if you are talking stuff because you didn't like church then step off and leave the rest of us alone.

FOURTH: Now having exposed the cult TRAITS listed above it is NOW TIME to INVOKE the deity -- Jesus is of course on Jill's and CCG side not the rest of Christendom.

Which leads us to the FINAL statement which is FAUX concern for your SOUL for daring to expose the Cult and its cultist leadership. What a FAKE PRAYER for Mercy the cultist makes when IN TRUTH Jill feels you have No Balls and is really Mad as Hell you will not stop exposing the ERROR of her cult.

Also may God have mercy on you for not following him.

AND YOU ARE NOT FOLLOWING JESUS if you don't agree with her.

Let me tell you something, Jill - most people reading these posts only want to be educated about what is going on in their community. CGC is a black spot and the community deserves to know the TRUTH about it.

Thanks for leaving your posts so they could be dissected and help warn others about the CGC cult and its cult leader BRH.
